Barrier Island Excursions is proud to present the Inaugural Barrier Island Challenge SUP Race, Southport’s first ever SUP racing event.

Beginner and Experienced SUP riders will choose from 2 courses, based on level of experience and challenge.

Both heats will paddle with the outgoing tide towards Southport, North Carolina.

Novice racers will travel approx 5.5 miles, departing from Ft. Fisher and paddle along with the tide towards the Southport finish line.

Experienced paddlers will depart from the Carolina Beach State park near Snow’s Cut and paddle approx 13 miles towards the Southport finish line.

Both events are set to depart at staggered times in order for both heats to finish close to one another.

Safety and support are generously supplied by the The Cape Fear Yatch Club.

Their fleet of support vessels, theier crews, and their experience with regattas in our area offer our participants an impeccable level of security and assured response that is unprecedented.

Post event bbq and music will sooth our post race bodies and bring us to an early afternoon close.

Proceeds and donations for food and beverage go towards supporting Sea Biscuit Wildlife Refuge, a stalwart caretaker tending to the injured wildlife here in the North Carolina Low Country.

Those with vehicles at the CB or Ft. Fisher locations will be shuttled back to their respective departure points.

Last shuttle on the ferry from Southport leaves at 4:45. The last ferry from Southport to Ft. Fisher side leaves at 6:15.
